Rayner Davies has been retained as architects by Melton Mowbray Building Society after designing its new flagship branch in the town.

Rayner Davies Architects, who have offices in Nottingham and Maidstone Kent, transformed an important historical building in the centre of Melton Mowbray into a flagship branch of the Melton Building Society – creating a modern banking hall within a grade II listed building.

Jonathan Bramley, associate director of Nottingham-based RDA, worked on the project at 18 Nottingham Street, Melton. The building was sensitively renovated over an eight-week period on site, says Jonathan.

“We gutted the building and designed a new interior in accordance with the society’s requirements,” he said.

“The society needed a new, modern banking hall and the possibility of adding ATM access. The building is listed and therefore needed careful contextual design. We kept the traditional values of the building but added a contemporary style.”

RDA is also working on plans to transform the society’s previous head office at number 39 into retail units. The units are being marketed by Nottingham agent heb.

Melton Building Society, which has branches in Nottingham, Oakham, Grantham and Melton, says the move was a chance to enhance branch facilities for staff and customers.

Martin Reason, the MMBS chief executive, said: “The Melton Mowbray Building Society has been pleased to retain Rayner Davies Architects for the design and development of our new flagship branch at 18 Nottingham Street, Melton Mowbray.

“We continue to work with Rayner Davies Architects on an exciting retail development site in our former head office premises which will be released as new retail stores in Spring 2007.”
