New Stylish Housing for Edwards Lane
13 Oct 2008
WORK is almost complete on site at Edwards Lane, Sherwood to transform a redundant car sales and petrol filling station into a residential development of 13 stylish homes.
The development includes a new road and landscaping, and the houses take the form of the traditional properties built in The Park, Nottingham in the1800s, says the scheme’s architect Chris Goodwin of city architects Rayner Davies, who have offices in Nottingham and Maidstone Kent.
Close to the Haywood School, the houses are family homes which are expected to attract people already living in the area, said Mr Goodwin.
The land is owned by Farmers of Nottingham Limited, which moved its car sales operation to Mansfield Road.
Andrew Farmer said that the company had been heavily involved in the design process of the residential development.
“We are expecting that the development will attract families who live locally,” he said.
“It will be an attractive place to live. These are stylish houses with landscaping and hedges on the site.”
Mr Goodwin added that the scheme had excellent local amenities – including a school, shops and leisure facilities. Rayner Davies has given consideration to the sustainability of the houses.
“The properties meet high eco standards and include thermal insulation, a rainwater butt kit, a garden composter, energy efficient boilers and eco sustainable materials where possible,” he said.
“The redevelopment of the site for residential has improved the area and will help create a balanced community,” said Mr Goodwin
“This is a brownfield site and the design benefits the street scene and sets a new benchmark for quality expected in locations like this.”
Savills have been appointed as the agent for the development.
