Work Starts on Site at Stapleford Pharmacy
23 Jul 2008

WORK has started on site to convert the former Wheatsheaf Inn on Ilkeston Road into the latest Burrows Close pharmacy.

The new pharmacy will be adjacent to the Radford Health centre and has been designed by Nottingham architects Rayner Davies, who have offices in Nottingham and Maidstone Kent.

“The new pharmacy will dramatically improve the appearance of the former pub.  It will be rendered white and have new aluminium windows and new landscaping.  The pub was getting quite run down and in danger of becoming an eyesore.” says project architect Steve Rayner.

The inside of the pharmacy will be fitted out with the latest fixtures and technology.

The pharmacy will also feature three consulting rooms for like minded businesses to use.

Burrows Close was set up in 1972 by the current MD Richard Close and is now run by Richard and his two sons Alan and Lyndon. The company has 17 branches in the Nottingham area.

“We are always looking to expand the business, and we are certainly keen to look at other sites and opportunities where we can do this” said Alan, who takes care of the firm’s buying and distribution.

“We are a successful family business with our roots firmly in Nottinghamshire and we look to make further acquisitions of existing pharmacies.”

Lyndon, the company’s superintendent pharmacist, says that being closer to the medical centre will greatly improve the service that the company gives to customers.

Alan added: “It will improve our service to move the current Burrows Close pharmacy in Radford closer to the health centre.”

Rayner Davies expects that contractors will be on site for another two months.
