A positive future for 13 St Peters Gate

A new retail unit proposed for an historical grade II building in Nottingham’s city centre is likely to attract a high end fashion label.
Rayner Davies Architects (RDA) has applied for planning permission to transform 13 St Peter’s Gate, originally a headquarters building dating back to the 1870s, into a stunning retail development.
The impressive building is distinguished and well known in the city centre for its striking architecture. In more recent times, it has been a bar – the Dome, and a restaurant – and now the plan is to change its A3 bar/restaurant usage back into its original A1 use, says Steve Rayner of RDA, who have offices in Nottingham and Maidstone Kent.
On behalf of developer Pan Albion, RDA has applied for planning permission to alter the interior and exterior of the premises. The aim is to keep its character, and create a grand two-storey store. Work will involve putting in a lift and a new staircase.
Mr Rayner said: “It is likely that the unit will attract high end retail tenants. This will work very well in with the neighbouring Hugo Boss store, which is of a similar size, listing and style. The store is just a short distance from Bridlesmith Gate, already one of Europe’s busiest shopping streets which boasts a wide range of key retailers from Flannels to Ted Baker.”
The original grade II listed building was erected in 1872 and since construction it has been modified several times and its usage has changed. The building was originally the headquarters for the Nottingham Waterworks Company and was altered to become a bank in the early 20th Century.
Steve Rayner said: “This is a beautiful building with a lot of history, we feel by returning the building back to a single volume, A1 unit we can restore it to being a successful working building again.”
Ben Tebbutt of FHP City Living, which is marketing the building, said: “We are in discussions with a number of high end retailers. We are confident that we can bring yet another impressive large name store to Nottingham, building on the city’s current reputation as a fantastic shopping destination.
“The city is the country’s fifth best shopping destination. With more impressive brand names such as Hugo Boss and Vivienne Westwood moving into Nottingham, this reputation is set to improve even further.”
