Vernon Road
November 2006

Client: Bel-Air Homes

Contract Value: £1.6M (approx)

To take full advantage of this important corner site, which sits on the junction of two main arterial routes into Nottingham City Centre, this building was designed to provide an exciting contemporary focal point for the area. Through the use of a limited palette of quality materials and fenestration of different building elements throughout, a holistic development is created, positively contributing to the regeneration of the immediate area.

The cleared site provides apartments fronting Nottingham Road and part of Vernon Road to create an internal courtyard at its heart. In total there are 23 units consisting of 16 one-bedroom apartments and seven two-bedroom apartments, supported by car parking for 23, which are situated within a newly formed basement level.

The internal private space at the heart of the scheme has been designed to have an element of visibility from both Vernon Road and via Nottingham Road, when seen through the transparent entrance foyer. Privacy was created by a combination of hard boundary treatment and intensively planted soft landscaping.

Apartments have been designed on a modular arrangement, to ensure the development is efficiently constructed. Likewise, the one and two-bed apartments have been developed to be functional, compact spaces, which offer a degree of flexibility, required in today’s residential market.
