Rayner Davies Architects initially assisted in the refurbishment of 172-188 Mansfield Road. These historically interesting buildings made a substantial contribution towards re-establishing and reviving the former character of the area.

The scheme was awarded a Civic Trust commendation in July 2002. This led to Rayner Davies being commissioned to develop ideas for the adjoining site, the former Elbow Café buildings. This new-build scheme, containing 17 apartments aimed at the residential letting market, is a visually important project, as it forms a strong focal point for anyone driving down Mansfield Road into Nottingham City Centre.
